My last drawing of 2012. Beast Wars Rhinox.
Hmm. A fan of my comic reblogged this photo, but said something in his reblog that I think I might want to address, since I heard it elsewhere before.
I never stopped Super Deformers because of a C&D by Hasbro. In fact, I did some SD comics for Hasbro’s own magazine and for Dreamworks’ Transformers comics not long before I stopped doing them for the Super Deformers website.
I stopped doing SD for one reason and one reason only: I burned out. I could not keep doing the comic, and I felt I had nowhere else to go with it.
A talented cartoonist named Matt Moylan started his Lil’ Formers comic right around the same time I quit. You can find it here (http://www.lilformers.com).
I’m glad folks still remember Super Deformers, though, and I’m still fond of the concept, but I’m much happier to be focusing on my own property, Catbeard the Pirate, now.
However, if any of you know the folks at IDW and you think they’d be interested in a Super Deformers-style variant cover for a book, tell ‘em where to find me, ‘cuz I’d be ALL OVER that. ;D
While cleaning in my closet, I came across this old page of a Super Deformers comic that was never completed. Thought I’d throw it on here for giggles.
This was one of the incentive rewards for my IndieGoGo fundraiser for Catbeard the Pirate (catbeardthepirate.com)!
He asked for Jhiaxus from Transformers Generation 2, in the style of my old Super Deformers comics. It was a real challenge for me, because I have never drawn this character, and it’s been a really long time since I’ve done Transformers stuff, at least seriously.
I really hope he likes it.
